2015년 개정 교육과정에서 연극이 일반 선택과목으로 포함되면서 중고등학교 현장에서 희곡교육의 중요성이 도래했다. 또한 TV등 다양한 영상예술 장르가 확산되면서 다양한 매체리터러시에 대한 이해가 필요한 시점에 와 있다. 희곡은 문학의 3대 갈래 중 하나로 연극적 형상화를 전제로 하는 문학장르이다. 따라서 극이 가진 문학성과 연극성을 동시에 교육해야 하므로 일반적인 문학교육과는 다른 방식으로 교육이 진행되어야 한다. 또한 다양한 매체를 읽는 미디어 리터러시에 대한 교육도 병행되어야한다. 미디어리터러시와 교육연극론은 교육현장에서 희곡의 문학성과 극성을 동시에 지도하고 희곡과 다양한 영상예술장르에 대한 이해를 높이며, 그것을 바탕으로 창의융합형 인재를 육성할 수 있도록 돕는다.

As drama was included in elective course in the revised curriculum in 2015, the importance of drama has arrived in middle and high school education. It is also at the point where understanding of media literacy is necessary as the genre of video arts, such as television, has broadened. Play is one of three genre in literature that premise on play imagery. Therefore, because the literacy value and theatricality in a play is to be taught, a different way of educating is required compared to the prevalent literature education, and education in media literacy is also to be taught along with. Media literacy and theatre in education teach literature and play value of drama in the spot of education, improve understanding of various genre of video arts and help foster creative convergence talent.
